Scarifying in Forster Tuncurry

Strip out the thatch and moss choking your lawn, so air, water and new growth can get through, for a healthier, greener finish.

Scarifying

Clear out what’s holding your lawn back.

Over time, a layer of dead grass, moss and organic matter, thatch, builds up between the soil and the green blades. A bit is normal, but too much blocks moisture, oxygen and nutrients from reaching the roots, leaving your lawn thin, patchy and prone to disease.

Scarifying cuts through and removes that build-up. The blades slice out the thatch and moss and open up the canopy, so air, water and nutrients can penetrate the soil again, and new growth can come through from below. It looks dramatic at first, but that’s the point: clearing the old makes room for a thicker, healthier lawn.

The Full Renovation

They work best as a team

Each treatment does its own job, but combined, they transform a lawn. We’ll typically scarify to clear the thatch, aerate to relieve compaction, then top dress to level and feed the surface. Done together in the right order, it’s the fastest way from a tired lawn to a thick, healthy one. We’ll build a plan around what yours actually needs.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Scarifying answered.

A few of the questions we get asked most, from whether your lawn needs renovating or replacing, to how long it takes to bounce back. If yours isn’t here, give us a call and we’ll happily talk it through.

Because it’s meant to — scarifying pulls out a lot of dead material, so the lawn looks brown and thin at first. It’s completely normal and temporary. New growth is already coming through underneath, and an actively growing lawn bounces back within weeks.

Recovery depends on the lawn type, weather, watering and any follow-up treatments, but actively growing lawns often respond quickly — usually looking better within 8–10 weeks.

Most lawns only need it every year or two, once thatch has built up. Over-scarifying can do more harm than good, so we’ll only recommend it when your lawn actually needs it.

They fix different problems — scarifying removes thatch on the surface, aeration relieves compaction below it. Many lawns benefit from both, and we’ll tell you what yours needs.
